Five years ago, I started packing up my very first craft kits… 📦

Back then, we were all stuck at home, looking for something to do and I thought… what if I could bring creativity to people instead of waiting for them to come to me? That simple thought completely changed the trajectory of my business.

I went from making custom string art pieces to creating kits that let you be the artist. It lead to workshops, creative experiences, and a whole new way of sharing my love of crafting.

As I reflect now on how much things have changed (especially with the current tariff situation and my online shop being so US-based), I’m reminded of something important… change isn’t the end, it’s just a new direction (a little cheesy, but true 🧀)

Owning a business will always come with stress, but instead of letting it hold me back, I’m embracing where it leads next.

Stepping out of your comfort zone leads to growth 🌱

You know that feeling when you’re asked to do something cool but kind of intimidating, and your brain immediately says, “are you sure you have the right number?” 😅

That was my first thought when I was invited to speak to a university entrepreneurship class.

It turns out, stepping outside of your comfort zone is never as intimidating as it seems. And more often than not, it’s exactly what pushes you toward growth.

Here’s what we chatted about and what I took away from the experience that might help you if you’re thinking about starting/trying something new:

✨ Your first step doesn’t have to be perfect. I went from making custom string art for fun to running a full-fledged business by testing ideas and seeing what stuck.

✨ Pricing yourself confidently is hard but necessary. If you’re offering something valuable, don’t be afraid to charge accordingly.

✨ You don’t need to have everything figured out. Most of my business decisions have been based on trying, learning, and adjusting.

If you’ve been thinking about starting something, whether it’s a creative hobby (coming to CRAFT CLUB solo, maybe?), a side hustle, or a full-time business... this is your sign to go for it.

The worst that happens? You learn something new. The best? You find something you love. 💛

A reminder to my fellow creative friends out there that are making a living creating things with your own two hands that you don’t need sales reports presented to a boardroom of people in suits to be a legitimate business ✌🏻

Believe me, I surprised myself too that I could make money doing something I ACTUALLY enjoy. Not all jobs need to be “impressive on paper” or involve you hiring a bunch of people on a team, hitting your first million in sales, etc.

Sometimes it’s just a really cool thing that you can live the life you want while also not hating your job (unless it’s tax season 🫶🏻).

Holiday HandMade Market 2024 Wrapped 🎁
(Finally getting around to this post after a packed post-market week!)

• $350 raised for @mcmasterchildrens hospital with our annual wooden trees fundraiser
• Hundreds of kits going home for the holidays for crafty traditions
• 9 sold out out designs (we were loving the sunflowers, plants and ornaments this year!)
• 2 large art pieces ready to be displayed in their new homes (including my fav design - a monstera!)
• Only a handful of ornaments left for me to hang on my own tree
• Hundreds of conversations over three days with so many lovely people
• New maker friends that we can’t wait to see again
• 3 meals quickly eaten behind our cash register between customers (or shamelessly in front of them lol)
• Copious amounts of matcha for an energy boost
• Enough joy and gratefulness to fuel me until next year’s show

Along the way, I’ve been featured in Michaels, Better Homes & Gardens and HGTV, worked with teams from globally known brands, and will even have my work on Netflix next year (stay tuned for that story on a later date!). I’ve sold my handmade creations at markets I could only dream of being a vendor at years ago and hosted workshops with the best fellow business owners.

Beyond the milestones, my true highlight has been connecting with all of you and meeting so many people who get the heart behind Knot Really Art.

To my incredible community, thank you isn’t enough. I’m emotional thinking about all of you who have shown love, shared my posts, and encouraged me on this journey (even in the early days when things didn’t look so pretty). Because of you, I’ve been able to turn what I love into a business I’m proud of every day.

As for what’s next, who knows? The past five years have taught me that dreams only grow bigger with hard work, passion, an amazing support system, and, yes, lots of hammering. 🔨💛

I’m in love, I’m obsessed ✨

A lot of you have been following me for long enough to know that my original monstera design is my absolute favourite piece. Well, she may have just got even prettier!

I was picking up some workshop supplies at @michaelsstores today when I noticed this incredible yarn colour/pattern. Immediately, I knew it had to come home with me for one of my plant-inspired designs.

It just so happens that I was in the middle of making a monstera piece for an upcoming market in a different colour when I realized - who’s going to stop me from making three different colour leaves to add some depth?? Literally no one, that’s who.

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damn happy with the results. Let me know if you like the new trio colour look or if you’re moreso a fan of the single colour. No bad vibes either way! I truly love them all and am just curious what your fav is. Poll in the comments ⬇️

Last night was pure crafty magic at Harmony On West with our cozy soap-making and string art magnet workshop! ✨

From crafting gorgeous, fall-inspired soap bars to adding the final touches to custom string art magnets, it was an evening full of creativity, laughter, and community.

Seeing everyone’s unique take on the projects was a reminder of how creating with your hands can be both relaxing and rewarding. The vibes were immaculate, the wine and tea were flowing, and our crafters left with handmade pieces to cherish.

We created this piece together as a community at @get.lost.market 💛

Our slogan is “crafting is for everyone” for a reason. This past weekend we set up a board with nails around the border with a sign that said a few simple words. “GET CRAFTY WITH US. Grab your favourite string colour and get creative.”

The result is a beautiful piece of art that reflects all of the colours and creative vision of the community that showed up for all of the small businesses this past weekend.

I’m not usually one to be able to stare at a piece of art and see beauty in abstract lines, but this piece is just different. Every different string that is strung around these nails represents a different person that took the time to get creative with us.

We didn’t even get to capture a shot of everyone because so many people participated! If you or someone you know added to this art, tag them so we can help everyone see the final result. 🧵
